The Shanghai Quartet Renowned for its passionate musicality and impressive technique, the Shanghai Quartet has become one of the world’s foremost chamber ensembles. Its elegant style melds the delicacy of Eastern music with the emotional breadth of Western repertoire. “The whole performance was superb… emotionalism and excitability… a generous sound and an enviable unity of gesture.” — The New York Times |
Anonymous 4 Renowned for their unearthly vocal blend and virtuosic ensemble singing, the four women of Anonymous 4 combine historical scholarship with contemporary performance intuition to create their magical sound. “Their impressive vocal blend, purity of tone and distinctive individual voices, have helped them sell almost two million copies of their albums on the Harmonia Mundi label.” — The New York Times |
Concertante After more than a decade before the public, Concertante has established itself as a chamber ensemble that combines in equal measure world class virtuosity and an adventurous willingness to explore and enhance chamber music repertoire. “The ensemble closed its concert with a beautifully focused account of the Brahms String Sextet No. 1 in B flat. Its reading of the slow movement was particularly magical.” — The New York Times |
Artemis Quartet The Artemis Quartet’s meteoric rise to renown throughout Europe began with its sweep of the top awards at the German Music Competition in 1995, the Munich Competition in 1996, and the Borciani Competition in 1997. The Quartet has recently completed a two-year project of playing all the Beethoven string quartets. “There is a refreshing lack of pretension to the Artemis’s playing, where a beguiling sweetness of tone is combined with cool-headed judgment…” — The Guardian, London, UK |
St. Lawrence String Quartet Established in 1989, the St. Lawrence String Quartet has developed an undisputed reputation as a truly world class chamber ensemble. The SLSQ continues to build its reputation for imaginative and spontaneous music-making, through an energetic commitment to the great established quartet literature as well as the championing of new works. “…the ensemble’s accuracy matches its vitality… a fluid approach to tempos and dynamics yielded an organic, supple rendering that coalesced brilliantly in the speedy, hard-driven finale… gravity, warmth and textural richness…” — The New York Times |
